During each session, we ensure that we meet the unique needs of participants. Moreover, our adaptable approach consistently provides meaningful engagement. Whether they are initially exploring cause-and-effect interactions or, alternatively, navigating complex physical disabilities while maintaining typical cognitive functioning, we ensure that every participant benefits from a tailored experience. As a result, they can engage with creative arts in a way that suits their individual abilities and preferences.
MUSIC-CAN Level 1: Exploring Early Communication and Assistive Technology Access
We design this session for individuals at the pre-cause-and-effect or cause-and-effect level, focusing on the concept of choice-making.. Importantly, there are no right or wrong options—first, we place emphasis on fostering early communication skills in a supportive, inclusive environment.
How we Work
Next, running alongside these activities, an Assistive Technology (AT) specialist assesses participants to determine the most suitable access methods for their technology. This ensures personalised support that aligns with each individual’s unique needs.

We believe in empowerment and assume competence in every individual. Through active observation and thoughtful planning, we uncover and value even the smallest responses—subtle movements or facial expressions—as meaningful acts of communication. Our sessions are designed to foster active participation, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to express themselves creatively.
MUSIC-CAN Level 2: Developing Deliberate Choice-Making and Functional Communication
Level 2 sessions build on foundational skills, supporting individuals who have progressed to making deliberate choices. At this stage, participants put their decision-making skills into practice, using appropriate devices to choose, direct, and comment on activities. These sessions not only introduce functional communication but also foster cooperation and a growing awareness of others. Furthermore, they provide valuable opportunities to consolidate early skills acquired in Level 1, thereby creating a seamless progression in their communication and interaction journey.
MUSIC-CAN Level 3: Mastery of Assistive Technology and Creative Empowerment
Level 3 sessions are designed for individuals who are proficient in using their assistive technology. Because they require tailored programming to access specialist or mainstream software, the possibilities at this level are endless. Participants are empowered to pursue their creative ambitions in a way that suits their needs.
Case Study: Transformative Potential
The Level 3 Case Study highlights a young man who has worked with the Forget-Me-Not team for three years. Initially struggling with motivation and self-esteem, he has since progressed through developmental stages, ultimately becoming a rising songwriter and filmmaker. Moreover, his music video was showcased at RawFfest 2019, which led to interviews on to interviews on on BBC Wales’ Good Morning Wales and Good Evening Wales. He was also featured in an article on Classic FM Online, exemplifying the transformative potential of this level.
